MALAYBALAY CITY, BUKIDNON – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Bukidnon has hired five contract workers to beef up its price monitoring campaign.

DTI Provincial Director Ermedio Abang said this job hiring is in support to the government’s Comprehensive Livelihood Employment Program (CLEEP).

“The newly-hired workers are designated as Price Monitors to add force to the ‘Bantay Presyo Team’ (Price Watch Team) in the province,” Abang said.

The 5-member team will be deployed to key cities and municipalities who will regularly monitor prices of basic necessities and prime commodities.

Apart from ensuring that products are reasonably-priced, they will monitor business establishments for probable violations of the Trade and Industry Laws such as the Price Tag Law, Labeling & Product Standards Law.

The Price Monitors will receive P251 daily wage and their contracts are valid for three months, renewable every month depending on their performance.

Their salaries come from the national P1.2 billion funds for the CLEEP.

CLEEP is the government’s nationwide effort intended to protect the country’s most vulnerable sectors, such as the poor, returning expatriates, workers in the export industry and out-of-school youths, from threats and consequences of reduced or lost income due to the global economic crisis.

This can be done by providing emergency employment, funding, and supervising livelihood projects.
