Controversial Bukidnon priest Fr. Diosdado Tabios to run for governor
BUKIDNON | BUKIDNON NEWS | VALENCIA CITY UPDATES – The former parish priest of Valencia City, Bukidnon will reportedly run for governor come May 2010.
Fr. Diosdado Tabios, who served as Valencia parish priest from 2001 to 2007, will be the Nacionalista Party’s bet for the Bukidnon gubernatorial seat in next year’s national elections.
Through a text message, Nacionalista Party spokesman Gilbert Remulla confirmed this with Bukidnon Online.
Tabios, however, has yet to file his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the provincial office of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Malaybalay City.
Tabios, 46, recently took his oath before NP presidential bet Senator Manuel “Manny” Villar in Manila.
The former Valencia City parish priest left for the Netherlands in 2007 to pursue further studies. He was reportedly a scholar under the Ford Foundation. Upon his return to Bukidnon this year, Tabios reportedly became an assistant to the administrator of the San Isidro Cathedral in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon’s capital.
Tabios claims he has “championed” indigenous people’s rights. He also claims that he has educated and helped lumads.
Tabios’ critics beg to differ, however. Sources who agreed to speak to Bukidnon Online on the condition of anonymity say that before Tabios’ departure for abroad, he gained the ire of so many people, mostly lay leaders and those active in church activities. They said that Tabios got involved in several “money-related” problems.
No word yet if the church here in Bukidnon will support Tabios’ candidacy. (MISA/Bukidnon Online)

Based on Canon 287, par. 2 of the Code of Canon Law, Fr. Tabios will be meted with “just penalty”, with all his faculties as a priest suspended, the moment he files his candidacy. The case of Among Ed Panlilio is a good precedence.

Maybe its time for us residents of Bukidnon Province to have a new leadership that will resolve the ever long run problem of land issues, that greatly affected our poor and indigenous brothers who become a victim of development aggression and structural violence.
In our governance, let us embrace the Rights Based Approach in developing our community.

I would have been better if it is Fr. Dards Estaniel because he is not active in the church for quite some time !

Why are you people very judgemental! It is time to have a “change”. I guess Fr. Dodge is a great priest and he knows the needs of the poor people. I heard that he helped a lot of people, he even helped my brothers. Every human being made mistakes and no body is perfect. Are you perfect?

It is very obvious ! He was pushed to run as governor by Joe Zubiri against Boy Tabios. That is to confuse the public ! Pila Fr. Tabios?
