MALAYBALAY CITY NEWS | CONTROVERSIAL | BUKIDNON NEWS | BUKIDNON UPDATES – Bishop Honesto “Oni” Ch. Pacana has requested that member-consumers-owners of Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BUSECO) turn off their lights and other electrical appliances for at least one hour everyday from 7pm to 8pm.

Pacana’s request was made in light of the libel case filed against him and 51 other priests by BUSECO General Manager Edgardo Masongsong. Masongsong accused the priests of publishing a letter that was reportedly “maliciously designed to defame, dishonor and discredit” his person.

A local newspaper has reportedly published the letter without the Church’s go-signal.

In recent weeks, the priests have offered “replacements” for Masongsong. Read related story here. A dialogue, attended by priests and members of a group called Alliance of Concerned Member-Consumer-Owners (MCO), was also recently conducted at the Office of Bukidnon Governor Jose Zubiri, Jr.

Now my question is…will you support the Bishop’s request? (Or have you?)

  • This decision to ask buseco consumers to switch off electricity for an hour or two is a collegial decision in the presbyterium, done in the spirit of consultation and prayer. This ecclesiastical “interventionism” is a characteristic of the Catholic church, since her mission deals with the salvation of the whole person which involves all the aspects of human life: spiritual, political, economic, cultural, social and ecological. Relegating her role only in the sacristy would be a betrayal of her mission.
