Bukidnon not part of national state of calamity declaration
BUKIDNON NEWS | TYPHOON PABLO – Despite the initial assessment of Php 304 Million in damages by Typhoon Pablo in Bukidnon, the province was not included in the recently released Malacanang proclamation of a national state of calamity.
The Province of Bukidnon was not mentioned in the Malacanan Palace-issued Proclamation No. 522, series 2012 which declared a state of national calamity. These were the only areas mentioned:
WHEREAS, due to the severe gravity of the damage, particularly in Provinces of Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental and Davao del Norte in Region XI; Surigao del Sur in CARAGA Region; Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City in Region X; Siquijor in Region VII; and, Palawan in Region IV-B, the government is spearheading the entire nation’s efforts to undertake immediate rescue, recovery, relief and rehabilitation;
When Bukidnon Online asked for a comment, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Majority Floor Leader Atty. Nemesio Beltran, Jr. said, “the whole Philippines was declared in a state of calamity and they [Malacanang] have yet to receive our urgent recommendation to also include Bukidnon as one of the affected areas.”
The SP will convene today, December 12, 2012 for their regular session. It is not clear if Malacanang will change its proclamation even after receiving SP’s recommendation to include Bukidnon as a Typhoon Pablo-affected area.
Last week, the SP only convened Thursday, about 48 hours after the storm.
