Bukidnon organizes DRRM Council

BUKIDNON NEWS | MALAYBALAY CITY | BUKIDNON ONLINE | GOVERNMENT IN BUKIDNON – Provincial Governor Alex P. Calingasan has issued an executive order renaming the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC).

In his Executive Order No. 17, Governor Calingasan ordered setting up and renaming the ruling body from PDCC into Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC). He said the reconstitution of the council is in accordance with Republic Act No. 10121 otherwise known as the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.”

The governor will act as the chairperson. The provincial heads of DILG, Social Welfare and Development Office, PAGASA and Provincial Planning and Development Office shall respectively be the vice chairs for the following four key elements: 1) disaster preparedness; 2) disaster response; 3) disaster prevention and mitigation; and 4) rehabilitation and recovery.

The council members will be composed of all organic provincial officials, national line agencies, and civil society organizations.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Arsenio Alagenio said all members identified in the council shall adopt a multi-sectoral and cluster approach in keeping with the goal that is responsive to the requirements of emergency management and ensure that the operational activities becomes automatic in nature and in accordance with the national DRRMC guidelines.

The PDRRMC will approve, monitor and evaluate the implementation of the local disaster plans, will regularly review and test the plans consistent with other national and local planning programs.

Furthermore, it will ensure the integration of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into the local development plans, programs, and budgets as a strategy in sustainable development and poverty reduction.

Alagenio, who is also the deputized provincial civil defense coordinator, said the council shall recommend the declaration of calamity areas to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, as stressed in EO 17. (PIA Bukidnon – Ruby Balistoy)
