Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative manager faces complaints, priests offer “replacements”

MALAYBALAY CITY NEWS | BUKIDNON NEWS – Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative (BUSECO) general manager Edgardo Masongsong is in the hot seat. He’s facing complaints for alleged “conduct unbecoming of an officer” and for alleged “betrayal of his oath of office.” The Diocese of Malaybalay priests filed the complaints before the National Electrification Administration (NEA). The priests, led by Bishop Honesto Ch. Pacana, want Masongsong out. The group also named three “replacements” who can temporarily take over Masongsong’s job.

santoninioThe complaints against BUSECO manager Masongsong stemmed from the controversial election of BUSECO board member Jonally D. Santoninio last December 2007. (see photo) Santoninio is supposedly the director for Malaybalay City area. A civil case is still pending before the Regional Trial Court, questioning whether or not Santoninio’s election at the time was legal or not.

Reportedly, the RTC has issued a temporary restraining order last April 30, 2009 ordering BUSECO, BUSECO’s district election committee et al to cease and desist from proceeding with the election. Instead of following the RTC’s order, however, Masongsong allegedly reset the election from May 2 to May 30 upon receipt of the TRO on May 1, 2009. Masongsong also reportedly conducted a so-called “ceremonial voting” election last May 30, 2009 wherein Malaybalay City Barangay 1 Chairman Gabriel Alima was proclaimed. On June 30, 2009, however, the court also released a TRO against Alima’s induction, pending the court’s decision on the original case (Santoninio’s election).

Amid all these hullabaloos, the diocese has offered reportedly qualified replacements, in case Masongsong will indeed be ousted from his job as BUSECO manager. The nominees, all certified public accountants, are lawyer Jenny Sale, San Isidro College president Fr. Virgilio Delfin and Malaybalay City Barangay Kalasungay kagawad Rodrigo Niere.
