Flashflood kills 2, injures 4 in San Fernando Bukidnon

“Water building up behind a 20-foot river embankment broke loose, washing off vast rice paddies and cornfields in the village,” Yeke said.

Local authorities believed that the victims never suspected the danger along the Tigwa River, which, a whole day rain at this time of year, is normally at its moderate level.

Eusebia Piscos, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (MDRRMO) reported the flood affected 72 families with 24 houses totally damaged.

“Affected families are now housed at Iglugsad barangay hall, while the town’s DRRMO continues to distribute food packs containing rice, canned goods and noodles. Blankets were also distributed,” she said.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer, on the other hand, reported that the Provincial DRRMC has requested the provincial government to allot P5,000 burial assistance for the bereaved Loro family and P3,000.00 for each injured persons.

The PDRRMC also requested the Office of Civil Defense in region 10 to apportion P10,000 burial assistance and P5,000 for the injured. (Philippine Information Agency – 10, Bukidnon Bureau / Ruby Balistoy)
