Francis Casey Alcantara joins California State Univ tennis varsity team

MALAYBALAY CITY | BUKIDNON NEWS | BUKIDNON SPORTS – The son of a Bukidnon native, Francis Casey Alcantara, the very first Filipino to win a Grand Slam tennis tournament, will soon join the tennis varsity team of the famed California State University. Alcantara is the son of Sarah Belderol, a resident of Malaybalay City. He lost his father a few years ago due to cardiac arrest.

Eighteen year old Alcantara reportedly earned an athletic scholarship from CSU. The school is located in Fresno, California.

Alcantara will reportedly take a business management course. Classes for him will start on January 11, 2011.

Alcantara is the very first Filipino to win a Grand Slam title. He and partner Hsieh Cheng Peng of Taiwan bagged the Australian Open junior doubles crown. Right after his triumph, the Senate of the Philippines commended him via a resolution.

His highest International Tennis Federation ranking shot to 14.

He also reached the second round during the Wimbledon Open singles this year.
