Full statement of Sec. Neric Acosta on graft case conviction
Following the Sandiganbayan’s decision declaring current Presidential Adviser for Environmental Protection and Laguna Lake Development Authority General Manager JR Nereus “Neric” Acosta and his mother, former Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon mayor Socorro “Coring” Acosta guilty of graft, Rep. Neric released a statement.
Full statement of Rep. Neric Acosta:
“While we are grateful for my acquittal in the two graft cases filed against me and my mother in the Sandiganbayan 4th Division and the acquittal in the perjury case in the 5th Division, we are saddened and perplexed with the decision of this one case connected with the abovementioned cases.
We will submit to the rule of law, and will exercise our legal right to appeal the decision.”

Both Acostas were sentenced to 6 up to 10 years of prison term. The Acostas will file a motion for reconsideration in 15 days.
The Sandiganbayan case stemmed from the alleged misuse of then Rep. Acosta’s Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF). Neric Acosta served as former Bukidnon 1st District Congressman.
In 2012, Acosta faced a 90-day preventive suspension.
