BUKIDNON ONLINE | TECHNOLOGY | COMMUNITY SERVICE | EVENTS | FEATURES | EXCLUSIVES – The first ever Google Mapping Party for Bukidnon (and in Bukidnon!), which was held last April 27, 2011 at Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, was a resounding success with more than 25 volunteer participants from Malaybalay City, Valencia City and the Municipality of Maramag.
From being virtually empty, the Google maps for areas in Bukidnon such as Malaybalay City and Valencia City now have markers such as street names, roads, locations of churches, offices, business establishments, subdivisions and even tourist spots. Now, because of the Google Mapping Party, it will be easier for residents and tourists alike to navigate around Bukidnon — it will be easier for them to find the nearest drugstore, for instance. It will be easier to look for the most efficient way to travel from point A to B.
Check out the before and after screenshots taken by participant Sarah:
Those screenshots were only taken right after the mapping party. Just imagine just how full the map now is — especially since all of the volunteer mappers continued to plot up to this day!
The Bukidnon Google Mapping Party also paved the way for the establishment of the Bukidnon Google Mappers group. Rest assured that the group members will continue to plot and the group as a whole will hold more mapping parties in the future.
Here are some photos taken during the Google Mapping Party for Bukidnon:
Big smiles from the Bukidnon Google Mappers!
We are so grateful to GOOGLE for the assistance and for the fabulous t-shirts they sent! We all loved our shirts and we all wore them with pride and huge smiles on our faces
Big, big, BIG thank you’s to Southern Telecommunications (SOTELCO) for providing us with FREE (and absolutely very, very FAST) wireless Internet connection! Thank you very much for supporting causes like these — hats off to you!
We would also like to thank Rey and Lyn of Rey’s Grill (Don Carlos St. corner Tabios St., Malaybalay City). Thank you for the continued support!
And of course, BukidnonOnline.com would like to wholeheartedly thank each and every participant of the Google Mapping Party for Bukidnon! Without you guys, the event would not have been a huge success! The mere fact that you all decided to volunteer your time, your effort and your energy to this cause already sends a big, compelling signal not only to others but more especially to the leaders of our society today: that causes like these are possible and can be done!
Daghang salamat! Let’s continue to be changemakers in our community
Now just in case anybody out there would like to invite the Bukidnon Google Mappers to their own community (so we can lead and guide you on your own mapping party in your area), please do not hesitate to leave a comment below. We would be happy to help you!
Bukidnon needs volunteer mappers — Bukidnon needs volunteers PERIOD. As we previously said, let’s volunteer, let’s be changemakers!
