BUKIDNON NEWS | Bukidnon Online – The son of Senator Edgardo Angara is considering a possible senatorial run. In a recent phone interview with a Bukidnon radio station, Aurora Rep. Sonny Angara admits he might run for Senator in the 2013 midterm elections.
Angara was named one of the top 12 senatorial candidates in a recently conducted Pulse Asia Survey.
“Nagpapasalamat ako at napasama ako sa Top 12. I’m the youngest person on that list, ” he said, adding that he was thankful for the confidence bestowed upon him by the public.
When asked if he will run under the banner of the Liberal Party (LP), the party of President Noynoy Aquino, Angara said that he was keen to the idea, should there be an invitation for him to join the LP roster. “Tatanggapin ko po pag nag-alok ang Presidente. Pag may offer, I will accept.”
During the Bukidnon radio station interview, Angara also said that he’s involved in the amendment of the Nursing Act of 2002 whereby one of the provisions would be to increase the salaries of government nurses. “Pag hindi aalagaan ang mga nurses, aalis at aalis ang mga yan. We already have a shortage of nurses especially in the rural areas and in provincial hospitals. We should take care of them.”
Angara said that the salary increase can be done in tranches. “Like in the case of teachers, the increase was gradual. Para hindi agad mabigla ang ating finances.”
The 3-term Aurora congressman and lawyer, who also served as spokesperson of the prosecution team during the impeachment trial of former Chief Justice Renato Corona, also shared his opinion about the proposed Reproductive Health Bill.
“May magagandang provisions din sa RH Bill tulad nung pagbibigay ng impormasyon sa mga kababaihan about reproductive health, about their bodies. However, I want the 2 child policy to be removed. Personal dapat yun na choice between the mother and the father. I am also not in favor of requiring businesses with more than 100 employees to provide contraceptives. Mahirap na nga ang magnegosyo sa ating bansa. This might be an added burden to entrepreneurs who wish to invest in our country,” he said. (BukidnonOnline.com)
