Landless farmers now occupy Ocaya Ranch in Maramag, Bukidnon; protest Del Monte lease

Several landless farmers have stormed and occupied certain areas of the ranch owned by the Ocaya family in Barangay Kuya, Municipality of Maramag, Bukidnon. According to this article, the farmers, some one hundred of them, are protesting the lease of the land to Del Monte Philippines, Inc. despite a Department of Agrarian Reform Notice of Coverage issued by Assistant Sec. Dominador Andres in 2008.

The farmers, who comprise the Danggawan Landless Farmers Association led by Oscar Manego, said that they will continue staying at the Ocaya Ranch in Maramag until Department of Agrarian Reform regional officials talk to them.

Makes you think if this issue will ever have a just conclusion.
