During the recently held “Marketing and e-Promotions for MSMEs” training, which was sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bukidnon, the Bukidnon I.T. and E-Commerce Committee (BITECC) and PLDT SME Nation, the participants were told that PLDT has already acquired Philcom.
All right…before anything else and before you go “hoowhat?!” on me, let me just say that this piece of news apparently isn’t “fresh” anymore since the acquisition was a done deal earlier this year. So if you only got wind of this piece of news, well…then…that makes the two of us!
Apparently, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. has signed an agreement to acquire the shareholding of debt-saddled Philippine Global Communications Inc. (Philcom Inc.) in Mindanao operator Philcom Corp. for P75 million. PLDT has also reportedly taken over Philcom’s obligations to banks, suppliers et al. to the tune of P340 million.
Anyways, this Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) acquisition is, IMHO, really good news for all of us here in the Province of Bukidnon.
Expect more PLDT products and services to be introduced here in our area. Just check out PLDT’s current array of services and products! As an entrepreneur, I can see so many possibilities, so many opportunities! I can see greater efficiency, cheaper costs, more reliability and yes, additional choices. And as a regular consumer/customer, the entry of a large telecommunications firm will really up the ante — we can expect better service not only from PLDT, actually, but from its competitors as well.
What I’m pretty excited about are the full access to these PLDT services and products — WeRoam, PLDT Landline Plus and other wireless solutions.
What about you — what are you looking forward to or expecting out of this PLDT – Philcom acquisition?
