Quezon Bukidnon wins top DepEd literacy award

A barangay in the Municipality of Quezon, Bukidnon bagged the top literacy program award during a recently held Department of Education-led national literacy conference and awards. Barangay Lumintao, Quezon, Bukidnon, whose entry, “Health, Education, Agriculture and Livelihood” or HEAL, was voted the Philippines’ Most Outstanding Literacy Program. The awards ceremony, which held the theme “Literacy for Resilient Communities,” was held in Baguio City.

DepEd Literacy Coordinating Council Chief Norma Salcedo said that HEAL boasts of “highly commendable track record including dependable leaders and volunteers with profound program commitment coupled with strong stakeholders’ support and with culturally appropriate and acceptable approaches in delivering the program.”

Salcedo said HEAL’s sensitivity in addressing the needs of its beneficiaries had “improved their lives through its inclusive education and agricultural components.”
