3 vet sanitation checkpoints to be put up in Libona, Talakag, San Fernando

The Provincial Government of Bukidnon (PGB) will be constructing 3 Provincial Veterinary Sanitation Checkpoints (PVSC) this 2021. These offices will be constructed in the Municipalities of Libona, Talakag and San Fernando with a total funding of Php 1,095,697.81.

The project is in line with the Bukidnon government’s efforts to prevent African Swine Fever (ASF) from entering the province. To this date, ASF continues to threaten the hog industry in the province after cases have been identified in surrounding areas.

Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Nancy V. Diez said that the PVSCs will also serve as the sleeping quarters of the personnel assigned in those towns, as most of them are not from the said localities.

She added that the 24/7 surveillance will continue in 13 PVSC stations at the borders of the province, with the assistance of the police. Diez also said that they are working closely with the barangay chairpersons in Bukidnon to tighten the implementation of the Bantay ASF program in the barangay level for monitoring swine, as well as to encourage registrations in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) for livestock insurance.

Boundary barangays are also being actively monitored to immediately check for symptoms of ASF in domestic pigs.
