Bukidnon solon Flores decries deprivation of barangay covered court use

Incumbent Bukidnon Second District Rep. Florencio Flores, Jr. protested against the deprivation of the use of some Malaybalay barangay covered courts and asked the city council to launch an investigation.

Flores, in a letter addressed to Malaybalay City Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman Jimmy Gellor, said that the chairmen of barangays 11, Maligaya and Cabangahan did not allow him and the rest of Team Flores to conduct medical missions at their barangay covered courts.

Under the law, barangay covered courts are for public use.

The Flores-penned letter was read by Gellor during this week’s city council session, temporarily presided over by Councilor Rendon Sangalang.

The council resolved that the captains of Barangays Maligaya and Cabangahan will be called to attend the next session. The chairman of Barangay 11 was no longer included since the captain reportedly later caved in and allowed the use of the court.

Flores, his son and the rest of Team Flores have been holding medical missions all around Bukidnon District 2. Accordingly, this has been a regular practice of Flores. His office also distributes livelihood packages to constituents.

Flores is running for Malaybalay City mayor this May 2019 elections. His son, Atty. John Flores, is aiming to replace his father in Congress. The younger Flores, a longtime legal adviser of his father, is the official PDP – Laban candidate for the Bukidnon District 2 congressional seat.

PDP – Laban is President Rodrigo Duterte’s political party.

Recently, photos of Team Flores’ medical mission in Barangay Anlugan, Cabanglasan, Bukidnon became viral. This, after reports surfaced that the team wasn’t allowed to use the barangay covered court. As a result, the activity was held amid a banana plantation. Numerous netizens criticized the barangay officials for depriving people of free medical services.
