Capitol suspends People’s Day

Bukidnon Governor Jose Ma. Zubiri, Jr. has put a stop to huge gatherings at the Capitol including People’s Day, which occurs every Wednesday. In a July 8, 2020 memorandum, Zubiri said he needed to temporarily suspend large gatherings including People’s Day or Adlaw Sa Masa due to the “sudden rise of COVID-19 confirmed cases” in the Province of Bukidnon.

As of July 8, 2020, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Bukidnon has ballooned to 44. The number increased because of the return of roughly 4,000 overseas Filipinos as well as locally stranded individuals.

The Bukidnon governor said he had “no option” but to suspend the People’s Day or Adlaw Sa Masa and other huge gatherings at the Capitol. He said the move was for the protection and safety of the people.
