Confirmed: former Bukidnon lawyer among those killed in Maguindanao massacre

MALAYBALAY CITY NEWS – It’s confirmed. A female lawyer, who used to be based in the Province of Bukidnon, was among those killed in the brutal massacre in Maguindanao. Atty. Cynthia Oquendo, a lawyer for the Mangudadatu family, was among those who got abducted and consequently killed in Maguindanao Monday. Oquendo was among the more than 40 people abducted and killed in the said Maguindanao massacre.

A group of politicians, their kin and members of the media were attacked Monday. Buluan vice mayor Ismael “Toto” Mangudadatu was quoted as saying that his wife, Jenalyn, his sister, and some relatives were on their way to file a certificate of candidacy (COC) on his behalf when a group of about 100 armed men abducted them.

Mangudadatu wants to run for governor of Maguindanao.

In a message sent to Reuel Gallo of Rey’s Grill (a copy of which was also forwarded to Bukidnon Online), Major Edmund Buenavista said that 45 people have already been found dead. Two bodies have been identified by the Mangudadatus.

Meanwhile, Valencia City Councilor Atty. Oliver Owen Garcia told Bukidnon Online that Oquendo is a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) – Bukidnon Chapter.

“She was also an associate of my law office sometime ago before she transferred to General Santos City,” Garcia said.

Bukidnon Online also learned that Oquendo used to hold office in a space atop Landbank Malaybalay City.
