BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE, allow us to clarify something — the mapping party was supposed to be held today, April 20, but because of several factors including the fact that there will be rotational brownouts starting today until the 24th, BukidnonOnline.com decided to postpone the Google Mapping Party for Bukidnon. So now the new target date is April 27, 2011. That’s a Wednesday.
BUT WAIT…we have more exciting news!
Not only will Bukidnon Online again be at the forefront of what’s believed to be a historical event – this Bukidnon blog will lead the first ever Google Mapping Party for Bukidnon – we will also have another first in the history of Bukidnon and we will hold it on the same day that we will hold the mapping party — the Mozilla Firefox 4 Launch in Bukidnon!
AND YES, WE HAVE GOODIES AND FREEBIES FOR ALL APPROVED PARTICIPANTS!!!
Now if you’re baffled as to what a mapping party is and as to how the Mozilla Firefox 4 launch works — here’s a brief overview:
A mapping party is an event where you, your friends and others who have (preferably) laptops with fast Internet connection gather in order to map their locale — in this case, Bukidnon, of course! This “mapping” can be done with the help and use of Google Map Maker and together, all cartographers (that means you, me and everyone else who will join this Bukidnon Google Mapping Party!) get to add and edit roads, streets, highways, business establishments, schools, banks and many more. Following a review for accuracy, new additions and edits are incorporated in Google Maps for millions of people around the world to see and use!
Take this example below for instance. Look at the “before” look of Lahore, India on the left. After the mapping party, check out what happened to the Google Map of Lahore on the right!
As you can see, a map of Bukidnon with correct street names, for instance, can really help tourists. Also, if you happen to be a Bukidnon business owner, this mapping party can also help boost your business since potential customers can now find it easier to locate you! 🙂
GREAT NEWS, YES? 😉
This BukidnonOnline.com-led Google Mapping Party for Bukidnon, by the way, is duly recognized by Google! Yey!
Now for the Firefox 4 Launch Party (which we will hold right before we conduct the mapping party!) — this is where we will celebrate (and download together!) the newest version of what’s recognized as the Philippines’ dominant browser on the desktop since early 2009 — Mozilla Firefox! They just released their newest version — Firefox 4 — and believe me, it’s their fastest and most efficient browser yet!
SO ARE YOU INTERESTED TO JOIN THESE TWO HISTORICAL EVENTS?
