Bukidnon bananas first ever shipment from Philippines to America

BUKIDNON NEWS – It’s official! Cavendish bananas from the Philippines have finally reached American shores and here’s more exciting news – these are Bukidnon cavendish bananas. This makes the Philippines the first ever Asian country to export bananas to the USA. The Philippines first asked for the opportunity to export to America 8 years ago.

US Embassy Manila Deputy Chief of Mission Brian Goldbeck confirmed that the first shipment comprised of 7 tons of Bukidnon bananas. This year, 3,000 metric tons of bananas will also be shipped from the Philippines to the USA.

The shipment of Bukidnon cavendish bananas, which was shipped from the Mindanao International Container Terminal in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental last August 20, 2013, arrived at the Port of Long Beach near Los Angeles, California last September 9, 2013. These will then be ripened and will be sold in stores this week under the Sweetio brand. Dole Philippines exported this to Dole Food Company, Inc. in the U.S.
