BUKIDNON ONLINE EXCLUSIVE | BUKIDNON NEWS | BUKIDNON BLOG – Bukidnon Second District Congressman Florencio Flores, Jr. apparently is one of the authors of the controversial Reproductive Health Bill. Flores himself told Bukidnon Online this today via a text message. When Bukidnon Online and Flores exchanged text messages earlier today, the former Malaybalay City mayor and neophyte congressman said that he was currently at the appropriations committee hearing in Congress.

Less than an hour later, Flores himself broke the news to Bukidnon Online: The House of Representatives appropriations committee passed the RH Bill. The bill will now move to plenary.

“The committee approved it. 23 in favor and 3 against,” said Flores’ text message.

When asked by Bukidnon Online for a brief statement about the latest development, the Bukidnon congressman said: “There appears to be strong support from the people and the lawmakers! I believe it [the bill] will pass.”

Flores is a co-author of the said RH Bill. Albay Representative Edcel Lagman is the principal author of the said bill.

The bill mandates the government to ‚Äúpromote, without bias, all effective natural and modern methods of family planning that are medically safe and legal.”

  • I have been following this “bill” since its inception. Hopefully it will pass although I do not see the need for it in the first place. All manners of birth control (save abortion) are already legal and available at prices so low as to be almost free. The Pill is very cheap & can be purchased W/O even an Rx and condoms can be bought in almost every pharmacy. What is needed is instruction in the use of these things.

I once had a sexually active housemaid who was 19 years old. I told her how not to become pregnant but now she has a child almost a year old that was conceived several months after I advised her to either take The Pill or use condoms DUH!!!

I am a Catholic but someone needs to tell my church to keep its nose out of the business of this government. The country cannot feed itself because there are too many children having children and even the grandparents of those babies are still having babies while unable to feed the ones they have. It is a never endibng cycle which does nothing but perpetuate poverty no matter what the Church says.

Now if I could just move the cursor to correct my typing error all would be well here.

    • The key, methinks, is INFORMED CHOICE. As long as people know what they’re getting into, what they need to do, what NOT to do and if they know the various options that they can take, then I think that’ll be best for everyone. I also think that people should be more aware of the repercussions of their actions. More often than not, they don’t understand that the more children a certain family has, it means that his or her own family will enjoy less of the resources and will tend to spend more.
