Full text: Neric Acosta statement on alleged smear campaign against him

Politics

Important note: This statement from former Bukidnon First District Congressman Nereus Acosta is a must read. Compare this to the privilege speech recently delivered by Bukidnon Senator Miguel Zubiri which you can read HERE. After you read both statements, please share your thoughts, opinions, reactions HERE. You can also read what the fuss is all about HERE. Thanks!

Statement of Neric Acosta against the alleged smear campaign launched against him:

TODAY, A WELL-FINANCED SMEAR CAMPAIGN WAS LAUNCHED AGAINST ME BECAUSE I AM

BEING CONSIDERED BY PRESIDENT AQUINO FOR THE PORTFOLIO OF SECRETARY OF THE

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT & NATURAL RESOURCES (DENR).

VIA FULL-PAGE ADS AND OTHER MEDIA, THEY PUBLICIZED AN OLD WORN-OUT CHARGE FILED

AGAINST ME 10 YEARS AGO BY MY POLITICAL RIVALS WHEN I WAS A CONGRESSMAN OF

BUKIDNON.

WELL, MANY PUBLIC OFFICIALS HAVE PENDING CASES BEFORE VARIOUS COURTS, BUT A

PENDING CASE IS NOT AN INDICATION OF GUILT.

I PROMISED PRESIDENT NOYNOY I WOULD CLEAN UP THE WELL-PLACED MAFIA GROUPS THAT

ARE IMBEDDED IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT & NATURAL RESOURCES (DENR)

– FROM THE ISSUANCE OF FAKE LAND PATENTS RESULTING TO BIG LAND SCAMS TO THE

QUESTIONABLE GRANTS OF MINING AND LOGGING PERMITS.

THEY MUST BE AFRAID OF THE CLEAN-UP I INTEND TO DO.

I WILL BE STEPPING ON BIG TOES – BUT SOMEONE HAS GOT TO DO IT.

I WILL DO IT IF GIVEN THE CHANCE.

AS PRINCIPAL AUTHOR OF MAJOR ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS, I WILL PROTECT OUR

ENVIRONMENT, BUT STILL ENCOURAGE THE MINING INDUSTRY TO GENERATE EMPLOYMENT

THROUGH A BALANCED DEVELOPMENT PLAN THAT DOES NOT DEPLETE OUR NATURAL

RESOURCES.

LASTLY, I WILL DO MY BEST TO RID THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT & NATURAL

RESOURCES (DENR) OF THE ENDEMIC CORRUPTION OF SOME OF ITS HIGH-RANKING OFFICIALS

THAT HAS DEEPLY AFFECTED THE SYSTEM AND DEMORALIZED HUNDREDS OF HONEST AND

EFFICIENT CIVIL SERVANTS, IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE.

THIS IS THE LAST YOU WILL HEAR FROM ME REGARDING THIS MATTER AS I REFUSE TO BE

DRAWN INTO A MUD-SLINGING CONTEST WITH THESE VESTED INTERESTS WHO HAVE ALL THE

MONEY TO SPEND IN THIS SMEAR CAMPAIGN AGAINST ME.

MARAMING SALAMAT PO.

  • These Bukidnon priests(former) attacking Neric Acosta and his family are a big disappointment to the Diocese.
While I cannot openly criticize them for I have also my own vows to consider, I think it’s now time for the diocese to discipline them. The case is already being tried at the Sandiganbayan and it’s technically sub judice, which means that parties should refrain from making any public statement involving this matter. The full-page add published by the so called “crusade” is a cheap attempt to publicly humiliate Neric Acosta and his family.. While I do not take the side of the Acostas, I think this action by Fr. Balansag et al is very unchristian and I feel ashamed for their actions. The Lord did not die on the cross for “self-righteous” like you Fr.Balansag but probably for “sinners” like Neric Acosta. You already have your case. Don’t you have the decency and the patience to just wait for the decision? Stop doing this.! Your too much politicking scandalizes our seminarians in the diocese…Malooy ka sa ila brod…

    • hi mr. buhay. My name is fr Balansag. Just a few corrections to your statements. first, I am not a former priest, I am an active priest in the diocese. second, I did not put the full page ad in the Phil Star, someone else did it. I wrote Pnoy to hold in abeyance neric’s appointment, while his case is pending beofre the sandigang bayan. Should his case be resolved, Pnoy could do whatever he wants with acosta. third, Jesus did not die for sinners who are unrepentant; for repentant ones, yes.

  • I came from the 1st district of Bukidnon and I have come to know the Acostas when I was young.

  • I am not for Neric but he must be given a chance. The case is still pending. The case against him is obviously political because it was instigated by the Zubiri camp. In terms of corruption it is a public knowledge that the Zubiri’s are so corrupt that we could not see further development in Bukidnon. By the way, Fr. Balansag who happens to be anti-corruption advocate (sic) is related to the Zubiri; the wife of Inaki Zubiri, mayor of Malaybalay City Bukidnon is a Balansag. I am not sure what the bishop and his brother priests think of him; but Fr. Balansag is a shame to the Catholic Diocese of Bukidnon. Please don’t use your priestly position for selfish political reasons….

  • I am Diego Dragon from Baguio City and I fully agree with John and Jose. I first heard Neric Acosta in a speech he gave to us in Baguio concerning climate change. In that speech Neric not only highlighted the need for our country to start becoming more conscious of the effects we have on the environment but he also highlighted the need for us to take pride in our country’s environment and natural resources. These two messages from Neric Acosta are to me all that is needed in appointing him the next Secretary of the DENR. Good luck sir.
