MALAYBALAY CITY | BUKIDNON NEWS – A candidate for Malaybalay City councilor has formally kicked off his campaign with several barangay visits and a motorcade. Independent candidate Marlon “Toto” Casas Valcorza went around Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, met hundreds of locals and explained to them his platform of government.
All eyes are on Valcorza and his candidacy especially since he was not around when he filed his certificate of candidacy (COC). In what could very well be considered a first in the history of Bukidnon politics, Valcorza’s close friend filed the COC on his behalf. Valcorza was still in the U.S. then. Bukidnon Online found out that Valcorza has been working in America for 14 years.
“He is an OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker). But the strong desire for public service is there so he decided to return and run for Malaybalay City Councilor,” Valcorza’s close friend Atty. Jonathan Flores explained.
A past president of the Association of Bukidnons in America (ABA), Valcorza spent his elementary and high school years in the then Bukidnon State College. He also worked at the Malaybalay City government before he left for the U.S. Via ABA, Valcorza was able to donate dialysis machines and other medical equipment to Malaybalay City.
Valcorza maintains a Filipino citizenship. He told Bukidnon Online that apart from creating fresh social programs and livelihood opportunities, he also wants to review pending legislative measures at the Malaybalay City Council. He says there is a need to properly implement local laws and regulations.
