UPDATE: Toto Marlon Casas Valcorza lost in the election. BUKIDNON NEWS | MALAYBALAY CITY NEWS | BUKIDNON ELECTION WATCH 2013 – In what could be the very first of its kind in the history of Bukidnon elections, Malaybalay City resident Marlon Casas Valcorza, who is actually currently in the USA, has filed a certificate of candidacy (COC) for councilor.

Atty. John Flores, a close friend of Valcorza’s, filed the COC on Valcorza’s behalf last October 2, 2012, around 3:30 PM at the Malaybalay City Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office. Among the documents Flores presented to COMELEC was an acknowledgment from the Consulate General of the Philippines in New York, USA.

Based on official COMELEC records, Valcorza is running under the Aksyon Demokratiko Party, the same party of Malaybalay mayoralty bet Victor Aldeguer.

In a media briefing, Flores said that Valcorza will fly back to Malaybalay City on January 2013, 4 months before election. He also said that Valcorza went to the USA for greener pasture.

“His desire for public service is there so he decided to return,” he said.

A past president of the Association of Bukidnons in America (ABA), Valcorza left for the US in 1998 but flies back every year.

Valcorza accordingly remains holding Filipino citizenship even though his wife, a nurse who also comes from Malaybalay, has obtained American citizenship.

Valcorza’s family, friends and other supporters were also at the COMELEC during the COC filing.
