BUKIDNON – Developing Skills for the Rattan Industry. Rizlyn and Franco Descartin (1st & 2nd from R), owners of RD Valencia Rattan Furniture listen intently as Mr. Junar B. Merla of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Bukidnon critiques the output of the participants during the culmination of the Rattan Basket and Furniture Frame Making Training inside the company’s premises in Valencia City last May 1, 2009.
RD Valencia Rattan Furniture is an enrollee of DTI’s Export Pathways Program and said training was requested by the owner to enhance the skills of their existing manpower as well as train potential weavers and furniture framers seeking employment for this type of industry. Mr. Gil M. Trinidad and George O. Benelizo from San Fernando, Bukidnon, who were trained by the Product Development and Design Center of the Philippines (PDDCP) on rattan weaving and furniture making provided the expertise for the training.
